While measures of structural and institutional racism vary, residential segregation remains a consistent and often utilized measure to capture, at the neighborhood level, the continuum of disadvantage and privilege. Enabling researchers to measure and map various health and social inequities, often with a specific eye towards placed-based solutions ranging from interventions and policies targeted at health equity, is key. Workshop attendees will be introduced to the three measures for the city of Philadelphia, and shown how they can be used to conduct exploratory spatial data analyses.
