UHC Data Portal Updates: May 2023

- New datasets and updated documents.
Data added to the portal will be updated on a regular basis, based on ongoing projects, focusing on datasets that are useful for multiple projects. The UHC repository includes additional data that is not currently on the portal. The following is a list of new datasets and updates that have been added to the portal over the last month
New Datasets
- ZCTA 2010 spatial file for metropolitan Philadelphia, Reading, Camden CSA (SAS, ZIP, SHP, CSV) and Variable list
- ZCTA2020 spatial file for metropolitan Philadelphia, Reading, Camden CSA (SAS, ZIP, SHP, CSV) and Variable list

- PHL neighborhoods DSPH: 2010 tract (ZIP, SHP, CSV) and Variable list
- Percent Green National Land Cover Dataset (NLCD) Contiguous US (SAS CSV) and variable list : Percent green from 30 m resolution land cover data for 2010 tracts for contiguous US 2016 & 2019
- American Community Survey 5-year (2017-2021) ZCTA (SAS, CSV) and variable list.
Updated Dataset
- Census Tracts 2010 Philadelphia Reading Camden CSA : Tract boundaries were updated to include DSPH Neighborhoods. CSV, SAS, SHP files and documentation updated.
- Variable list for Census 2000 for main and population dataset updated.
Updated Documentation
- Average percent tree cover NLCD, Average percent impervious NLCD and percent green: documentation updated to include contiguous US files. This documentation includes percent green and assumes in RECVD for 2006-2011.
- Hands-on experience with data access, analysis, and interpretation in a group setting
The UHC Research and Data Core will be facilitating a workshop that aims to introduce researchers to the UHC Data Portal, and focus on three commonly utilized residential segregation measures: the Dissimilarity Index, the Gini Index, and the Index of Concentration at the Extremes (ICE). While measures of structural and institutional racism vary, residential segregation remains a consistent and often utilized measure to capture, at the neighborhood level, the continuum of disadvantage and privilege. Enabling researchers to measure and map various health and social inequities, often with a specific eye towards placed-based solutions ranging from interventions and policies targeted at health equity, is key. Workshop attendees will be introduced to the three measures for the city of Philadelphia, and shown how they can be used to conduct exploratory spatial data analyses. Finally, workshop attendees will have an opportunity to have brief hands-on experiences in data access, analysis, and interpretation in a group based setting.
The UHC Research and Data Core is actively working to expand which data from the repository are available; reach out to UHCdata@drexel.edu with any specific requests. All available data will be updated as possible by the UHC Research and Data Core.
